MY ROLES: FILM EDITOR, SOUND DESIGN, FILM SCORE, TRAILER EDITOR, COLOR CORRECTION
Directed by Keenan McKenna and Zachary Gauthier, I was presented with editing the project in it’s pre-production phase. Collaborating with Keenan about the messaging of the piece, color theory, symbols, etc.
The style of the piece is horror, and with each night of wild dreams connected to the protagonist’s (Junior’s) fear of the workplace and abusive boss… I developed an editing style for the piece that involved heavy visual distortion, harsh contrast, jump cuts, direct and intentional color theory, and gave flowers to classic horror films with an unafraid notion of playing within the darkness and grain. An emphasis I made in the edit of the film is how many of the shots begin with Junior out of frame and end with him in the middle of the phrase… by doing this from room to room, ext. to int., we see that Junior is attempting to catch up to himself, to his surroundings, and an absurd nature that is influencing him.
The sound design is intentional in it’s nature of foreshadowing, we hear mumbled speeches, clicks, mental error… an attempt at holding onto reality by Junior, and the score is a reflection of the feeling’s Junior has, distress and chaos as the gap between his dreams, the workplace, and fears begin to mold into monsters, displayed by screeching strings and atmospheric baselines.

Blessed with an amazing cast & crew, a well versed D.O.P. (Samuel Arango), and remarkable A.D.’s (Zachary Guathier and Lily Cyr) who believed in the project.
Shadows of Evil, When three unlawful combatants lead another night time rescue mission at a sex trafficking facility, saving everyone along the way becomes increasingly more difficult…
Along with many long nights of storyboarding, this project was the development of every ounce of creativity, connecting real grit with a constant flow of an organized story and mission was a challenge we were beyond ready to accept. With a combination of extreme wides, extreme close ups, and a focus on the depth of field, Shadows of Evil, connects storylines, emotions, and gravity with every single cut. The edit, score, and design highlights the tension within the rooms of the facility, hits home on an icy snowy cold textured exteriors, and reimagines what it means to risk for your friends, family, and others.

This film was a culmination of original music, groups of people with various talents, and an unshakable desire to make something authentic to the experience of an artist.
Rockstar Outlet, alongside Lucas McKeown, currently a Nashville based folk/country/blues artist, I wrote a script based off of stories, situations, and what if’s from the world of being an underdeveloped underground musician and song writer.
From this I storyboarded and built a shoot with a mix of original music, covers, and dialogue. The fantastic weekend of shooting thanks to D.O.P. Julia Hallman and A.C. Caleb Martin, morphed into such an amazing environment, that going into editing, we felt like we really had something, and that is the best feeling, when everyone is so onboard and operating on the same wavelength.
We took on rain during exterior shooting, smoke machines, music tracking, original music, speakers, numerous mic’s, numerous locations… and I give my flowers to everyone involved.

Emulate, is a thrilling look into the mind of instability, chaos, and impulse. As people we all have perspective on life and mental image, but Emulate tears down these walls and warps time for someone who fantasizes and emulates another humans aura. This is one of many films to come.
This was a substantial learning moment for me and I am beyond proud of what we were able to accomplish with this piece of art.
Nick Burns, and myself with a $0 budget cultivated a 5 minute short and one we are both ecstatic to have made… we were able to guerilla style shoot a story I came up with and presented to Nick Burns… and just like that we had a film done in one night. This was the first time we saw what was possible through the visual medium, storytelling, and brought us to seek out more ambitious projects!
